Individual Contractor – Legal Expert (80% – 100%)
The UNHCR Office for Switzerland and Liechtenstein is located in Bern and acts as a country office for the two countries. We work closely with the Swiss authorities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other relevant actors in Switzerland for the protection of asylum seekers, refugees and stateless people. We also work to find durable solutions for refugees.
To temporarily reinforce the capacity of our protection team, we are recruiting a legal expert with knowledge of the Swiss asylum system. The responsibilities of the contractor include tasks such as the preparation of legal reviews; analysis of decisions; development of legal benchmarks and recommendations or comments on legislative proposals.
Timeframe: 6 to 9 months, starting 1 April 2022 (duration to be discussed) Duty station: Bern or home based.
Required qualifications:
- Law degree;
- Proven expertise in international refugee and human rights law and Swiss asylum law and practice;
- Excellent research and writing skills;
- Fluency in either German or French and good knowledge of the second national language, good level of English;
- Practical expertise with protection monitoring is an asset.
